Should You Take Online CNA Classes?
CNA classes are available across the US states and they provide a great opportunity for high school graduates to prepare for the job market. CNA jobs are some of those jobs that do not demand a university or college degree.
However, not everyone wishing to attend CNA training classes is able to. Some of the hiccups include:
- Long working hours
- Proximity of the training institution to one’s home or work place
- The cost involved over and above the program fees
- Other commitments
Certified Nursing Assistant job is neither highly specialized nor is it technical. As such, it is one of those jobs that rescue hardworking people from joblessness. Not only does it take a short time to get the relevant CNA training, but it is relatively fairly priced; sometimes as low as $300 for the entire course.
A job that takes little time to train for like the CNA job benefits even immigrants who are able to secure the EAD (Employment Authorization Document). This includes people who only have temporary work visas. Other beneficiaries are those immigrants who have seasonal work visas or who are in the country as students. As long as one has the basic high school diploma, it is possible to train as a Certified Nursing Assistant and securing a job without further academic advancement.
Does CNA training avail opportunity for growth?
CNA is a job that one does because of an inner wish to help people who are weak in health, and a job that one does to earn a living. It is a challenging job but basic all the same.
A CNA cannot hope to get a promotion to any other position within the health institution or outside just by virtue of the CNA certification. To become a Licensed Practical Nurse, for instance, or a registered nurse, the CNA would have to go to a health training college and pay for the relevant courses, whose fees is many times higher than that of CNA training.
Why train as a CNA at all?
A CNA job, basic as it is, is a good platform to assess one’s real love for a medical career. It is like testing the waters before one can commit thousands of dollars for a higher course like registered nursing.
CNA jobs are almost guaranteed especially when one gains experience and keeps a clean record of conduct.
Salaries too can keep growing when one’s resume becomes attractive; some CNAs earn salaries almost as high as nurses due to their diligence and competence.
In this era of companies downsizing their workforce, CNA training has attracted even people who have degrees in different fields other than medical because, though viewed as an elementary job, CNA guarantees employment by virtue of the existing demand for it. Many medical students train as CNAs to be able to work as they pursue their degree and such other higher courses.
How different are the online classes from conventional classes?
Online classes teach everything that conventional CNA programs teach. They must all cover the core areas which include how to look after invalids, how to relate with colleagues, the need to keep the patient’s room clean and tidy, and other basics of nursing.
The main difference, however, is that online classes do not have designated streets, avenues or buildings like the conventional training programs. One only needs access to a computer and an internet connection to get on with the classes.
What similarities are there between online classes and conventional CNA classes?
- Both programs need to meet the requirements of the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN)
- Both programs must meet the number of hours set by the respective states
- They must both be run by registered nurses or medical personnel of a higher cadre
- Both programs need to have arrangements for the trainees to do practical training in relevant healthcare providing institutions.
- Students from both programs must pass the State Competency Examination before getting certified.
What advantages attract students to online CNA training?
Online classes are convenient
The convenience of the online CNA classes comes with fact that the trainee can take the classes any time that fits one’s program. For instance, one can go to work and still pursue an online CNA class.
While one drives or walks to the conventional CNA classes, using extra fuel and time, and possibly paying someone else to do household chores that one would otherwise have personally performed, online classes save the trainee all that extra input. One can attend the classes and still be in-charge at home.
Online training material is also bound to be much cheaper than hard copies of text books that one would need to buy in a conventional training school.
All round flexibility
A trainee does not have to take the classes at a particular time everyday or stick to such other regular schedule. The trainee takes the online classes whenever it is convenient, whether it is night or day, and in whatever order of segments one wills.
Suits different individuals
Some students lag behind in class while others get impatient at the tutor’s speed. That does not happen with online classes as one is able to go over a lesson as many times as possible without being a nuisance to anyone; or alternatively gloss over lessons that prove to be too easy. There are online CNA programs that are accredited by CNE-the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education and one can verify the position of the program online. This is important as only accredited programs accord one a chance to sit for the pre-certification examination.
Going online also enables one to train in a comfortable environment especially for foreigners who are yet to adjust to the new culture. One can study in private and get orientated to the new culture slowly by slowly.
